Super Bowl Ads Tip of the Day

You can learn some important things by watching the commercials during the big game. You can learn that dreams do come true, that year after year MC Hammer is still willing to make fun of himself, or that a man kissing a monkey is gross.

Most importantly you can learn that tomorrow February 3rd from 6am to 2pm you can get free breakfast at Denny's.

P.S. GoDaddy's Super Bowl ads continues to give the internet a bad name, for those of you considering purchasing a domain name, there are alternatives. May we recommend Dreamhost.com.

iTunes gives away a couple free music tracks every week. Most of the time they are unspectacular. But during the holiday season they also give away free Christmas songs, and by artists you've already head of. This is, if you've heard of Tony Bennett and Harry Connick, Jr.

Photo Tip of the Day

It's 2008, so practically everyone has a digital camera (Grandma, check) or a phone with a camera in it. So now the trick becomes showing your photos off. You can always have them printed, but that's a tip for another time. The quickest and cheapest way is to post them online for the world and your friends to see.

Here are some sites that offer free photo hosting that I'd recommend looking into. They serve different needs so just find the one that you like the best.

  • Flickr.com - owned by Yahoo!, is very popular but you can max out the free storage they offer quickly, after that, you'll have to pay for more space.
  • Picasa Web Albums - owned by Google, so you can use your same login as your Gmail. Picasa is also a desktop program to organize the all your photos on your computer.
  • Facebook - Has a fairly good photo album feature. Plus your "friends" on Facebook will be notified when you post new pictures of them. It is easy to limit access as to who can actually see your picture, but if you use that feature your friends have to sign up for Facebook too.

There are many many more out there, but its a good start.

McChick Tip of the Day

Tomorrow the 15th, McDonald's is giving away their McChick sandwiches (with the purchase of a medium or large drink, of course). In the afternoon it is a regular bun style sandwich, and in the morning it is a biscuit variant. strikingly similar looking sandwiches
While this these sandwiches are a rip off of Chick-Fil-A, you do have to give McDonald's some points for originality, they put the pickles on the top, instead of the bottom.

Bonus: If you want your coffee cold, stop by Dunkin Donuts for free Iced Coffee Day, which is also tomorrow. With this one there is no purchase necessary.

Photo Editing Tip of the Day

Want to touch up your photos before you post them online, but don't have iPhoto and there is no way you're going to shell out hundreds of dollars for Photoshop? Adobe has released Photoshop Express. It is all online so there is nothing to install plus it's free! It has an impressive range of features, including removing red eye and stylizing pictures. Plus it integrates with Facebook and Flickr.

Red Robin Tip of the Day

Red Robin resturant has some sort of bottomless fry basket thing, it's like bottomless coffee pot at IHOP where they both really do have a bottom it's just a fancyway to say all-you-can-eat. Well if you are really nice to your waitress/waiter you can ask them for a refill on your fries before you actually get your food. If your server decides to grant your wish, the fries will come to your table approximately the same time an appetizer would, plus you don't have to pay extra for em! Maybe that's what all the burgers are $9.75 there?

Chick-fil-A Tip of the Day

Chick-fil-A sells calendars that have coupons for every month. The calendars are only $5. January's coupon is a free chicken sandwich. You can also purchase a coffee mug for around $20 and get free refills for the year. If you go to Chick-fil-A often and/or like coffee, this is a great deal.

Also, they are serving free breakfast on Mondays during the month of January at the Lexington branches.

MP3 Tip of the Day

"It's coming back again! MP-Thursdays from Pepsi and O-ROCK 105.9!" Well you might say "105.9, that used to be WVRB here in Wilmore, but who's O-Rock?" Well O-Rock is an Orlando "New Rock" station and thanks to the power of the internet and the suggestion of a brother living down there we're able to take advantage of this free MP3 situation! Visit O-Rock's site to download this week's free songs.

Last year when they ran this promo it lasted every week for a month and they ended up having some pretty good songs. I got stuff from Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes, The Vines, Linkin Park, Evanescence, and they also introduced me to Yellowcard! Ahh, thanks to O-Rock Ocean Avenue is one of my favorite songs! Now I'm not promising the next Coldplay here, but its free and I'll even listen to "It's A Small World" once.

Now as an extra bonus geeky tip: After you download these tracks you'll notice that there's a little "This is O-Rock 105.9" promo at the beginning of each track. If your using iTunes you can set it to skip that opening every-time you listen to those tracks. To do that select the song and go to "File" : "Get Info", click on the "Options" Tab and where it says "Start Time:" type in 0:04 since the O-Rock promo happens to be four seconds long. Do this to every song and from now on when you place those songs it'll skip the O-Rock promo. Hey, I warned you it was geeky.

iTunes Tip of the Day

This tip is dedicated to those of use who are suckers from free stuff even if it sucks. There are 13 songs available for free on the iTunes Music Store by obscure artists! You'll be able to experience hits from greats like the 'Scissor Sisters', 'Miri Ben-Ari' and 'Le Tigre'. Yep I haven't heard of them either, but they're free! Fellow iTunes junkies will notice that they never saw a link to such an album on the main page. "How do I find it?" you might ask. It'll pop up when you buy a new iPod and plug it in, but if your not up for dropping $99 on a new iPod shuffle you can still download them if you have the link.

Thanks to Macworld's Mac 911 Blog for today's tip
